Racing to Save Lives
Please... Make your donation today...
Most people I know don’t even like driving 100 miles in a day, much less riding a bike 100 miles in one day!
I am training to participate in a 100 mile endurance bicycle race as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training. I'm very excited (and a bit nervous!) about the challenge to complete this race, but am especially motivated knowing that my fundraising efforts prior to the event will benefit a very important cause.
Cancer is personal. Statistics show that we, or someone close to us, will face cancer in our lifetime.
• An estimated 825,000 Americans are living with blood cancers; another estimated 135,000 people in the United States will be diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma this year.
• Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20.
• Survival rates for various blood cancers have increased dramatically in recent years, however, the search for cures continues.
My Team in Training is riding to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. I am riding in memory of my friend, Tom who lost his battle with lymphoma, but also in honor of the real Heros on our team, Claire and Patty. Since being diagnosed with Leukemia in 1999, after a very difficult battle, Claire was officially declared cured in the Fall of 2006! She is a very strong little girl with a beautiful smile and contagious inspiration! Patty, 56, was diagnosed in November 2007 with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia and is currently undergoing treatment. People like Claire and Patty are the reason we're riding and need your support to cross the ultimate finish line... a cure!
We can all be a part of the fight to find a cure and help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
I am respectfully asking for your donation to support my participation with Team In Training to help advance The Society's mission. Please use the buttons on the left side of this page to make your tax deductible donation online quickly and securely. You will receive a confirmation, by email, of your donation and I will be notified as soon as you make your donation.
Or if you prefer, mail your check payable to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to me at: 4301 E. Macungie Road, Emmaus, PA 18049.
Along with your donation, I would consider it an honor to wear a purple ribbon on my jersey with the name(s) of any loved ones who have faced cancer. Just email their name to me at: amupbh@aol.com.
On behalf of The Society and our Team Heros, Claire and Patty, thank you in advance for your support and kind generosity!
Sincerely,
April Umlauf
