That's all folks! The fundraising is completed and the race has been run. I raised over $4000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society this year; the total raised for all of the TNT participants that ran in Dublin was over $1.5 million!!! Thank you so much to those of you that donated; remember that you have made a difference in the life of someone with a blood-related cancer. And remember that even though my event is over, the mission continues; please give again next year!

My marathon was a success! I finished in 4h 11min, close to my time goal of 4h! The look on my face in the picture tells the whole story I think! That was taken in the last few yards of the 26.2 mile race... can you see the excitement, pain, relief, and pride?

Well, the time has come! I leave for Dublin on Thursday the 25th, and then the race is on Monday the 29th. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped me on my way; it's been amazing to see how much of a difference we can make in fighting leukemia and lymphoma together. I've trained over 450 miles and raised over $4,000. It wasn't always easy, but looking back it has been worth it! I have just a couple of weeks to turn in all my funds, so please donate online if you haven't already. I'll try to update the page one last time after the race to let everyone know how it went. Then I'll be off to London to meet up with Emily for some well-earned R&R! Love you all,

~Andy

Two weeks to go! I have just a little more time to finish fundraising, so please donate if you can! I am very excited about my trip to Dublin to run the marathon. Wish me luck!

20 MILES! Wow, today is exactly one month away from the Dublin Marathon, and also was the longest training run that we are doing. After building up to an 18-mile run, we tackled 20 miles this morning. It took me 3 hours and a few minutes, for an average of about 9 minutes a mile. This was a really tough challenge, but a great dress rehearsal for the marathon. In the next three weeks, our mileage will taper down as a kind of rest before the race, and then it's off to Ireland!!! Thanks to all of you for your support!

Last Saturday, the Team and I hit the trails at Umstead for an 18-mile run. It was a challenge, but I finished strong! In 2 weeks, we'll be taking on our longest training run of the season: 20 miles! Wish me luck!

Thanks to those of you that have donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. You give resources and hope to people struggling through a difficult time in their lives.

Last week we did an amazing 16-mile run and next week we are slated for an 18-miler! These are the training sessions where we are building up endurance for the 26.2 mile race. Wish me luck!

The thermometer keeps climbing, and so do my miles! Yesterday I ran 14 beautiful miles through the hilly trails at Umstead Park in Cary. Last week, it was 13 miles through Durham. Each week I'm running at least 25 miles total!

I also have a great fundraiser for all of you! YOU can win a brand new 2008 Suzuki vehicle from Bruce Cavanaugh Suzuki in Wilmington!!! For more info, please click here. If you would like a raffle ticket, please let me know! They are $20 each, and all of the funds from the ticket sales go directly to Team In Training and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!

After a week of running in the record heat, I needed a little reminder of why I'm running. What great timing to get a call from a local leukemia survivor. She and her husband were calling all the local TNT'ers to let us know how much they appreciate our efforts. Just last year she was taking chemotherapy and fearing the worst. Now she's doing much better and loving every minute of life! She encouraged me so much that every dollar we raise and every mile we run are a real help and give real hope to patients battling the disease. It's stories like these that keep me motivated to run in the dog days of summer.

Everyone loves big, round numbers! Thank you so much for making this the week that I passed the $3000 mark; that's a great contribution to cancer research and patient care! On the running half of things, the team did a 12-miler on Saturday morning. That was enough to put me over 200 miles of cumulative training this summer. Next time I'll be sure to run it all towards the beach... I'd be swimming in the ocean by now!

Happy August! First a big Thank You to everyone who has donated or helped out with a fundraiser, because I have decided to recommit to Team In Training. What is recommitment? Before today I could have left the program with no strings attached. Now, I am locked into the program and am responsible for raising the $5,500 minimum in exchange for travel and accomodations to race in Dublin. What does this mean? Well, if we are able to raise all the funds, it means we did it! If not, I will be personally responsible for donating the difference. I thought long and hard about the recommitment decision, and am so proud that I decided to continue this life-saving mission!

Wow, you guys are amazing! I am at 50% of my fundraising goal already, thanks to all of you and your generous donations to LLS!!! Let's make the other half and keep going; I have until October 1 to get all of my funds together, so we can do it! Running is starting to get harder and harder. This weekend I ran a 10-miler for the first time since high school cross country practice. It was a challenge, but it felt amazing to come to the 10-mile marker still running strong. Next week is another 10, but it's going up each week after that!

July 17, 2007

Hello and greetings everyone! I just got done with a 6-mile run this morning and I'm feeling great. The running is going so well right now; this weekend we are taking our long run up to 10 miles, and I'm excited for it. Fundraising is also going quite nicely! This weekend, I played with Ben and Matt for our charity benefit concert and we raised over $400 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! Thank you so much to everyone that came out to support the cause and enjoy some music!

July 8, 2007

Hello everyone! Well, I put a post up here at the beginning of the month, but it has disappeared! So let me try again... I have been training hard and doing well with fundraising. With all of your help, I am over 25% of the way to my fundraising goal of $5500 for cancer research and patient services! For those of you that haven't donated yet, it's easy! Just use the links at the right to donate by credit card, or mail me a check made out to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I am also running a lot; we did an 8-mile long run on Saturday, and I was pretty tired afterwards. As the weeks go on we'll build up more and more distance, and hopefully I'll be in better shape!

June 25, 2007

Hello all, I hope you are doing well. Some of you have told me that you received my letter; I'm glad to know the postal service is doing its job well, especially given the postage rate increase! I had a busy weekend of marathon training and fund-raising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! Saturday I met with the Team and ran early in the morning and then headed over to Wal*Mart and helped sell 300+ dozen donuts. Besides meeting some interesting Wal*Mart shoppers and raising money for cancer research, I also was able to get to know my fellow TNT folks. All in all it was a great day!

June 18, 2007

Hey there friends and family! I hope you are all doing well. Training for the marathon is a ton of fun. I’m meeting a lot of great people on the Team, and the runs are pretty short distances for now – 6 miles this weekend will be our longest so far. This weekend we’re also doing a fundraiser by selling tons of Krispy Kreme Donuts at the Wal*Mart on 15-501 and Mt. Moriah in Durham. If you are in the area, come by and say “hi” and grab a dozen on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. Also, keep your eyes peeled for details on an upcoming charity benefit concert!

Welcome to my website! I am training to participate in the 2007 Dublin Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission.

I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. I'll give updates on how training and fundraising are going! Thanks for your support!
