Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page, y'all!
Above is a picture of our first race, the WakeMed Distance Festival. Since I'm training for the full marathon, I signed up for the 10K race (6.2 miles).
I knew I wouldn't finish in the first of the pack, so Rose, Paula and I decided to line up at the end of the line. The first 2 miles were not pleasant, but I guess the body gets used to it after a while, because the rest of the race was enjoyable.
I finished in reasonable time: 1h18minutes, running a 12.44 minute mile, which is an improvement over what I'd done so far. And while I will definitely never qualify for the Boston marathon or the Olympics, I FINISHED the race! This is huge for me, because a month ago, I would have been at home, reading, or watching DVDs, and would have died laughing if you'd told me I was going to run a 10K race on a Saturday morning, and finish it!
I am training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this marathon in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
