Racing to Save Lives

Support is the key to completing 26.2. This time, I'm looking for a bigger show of support - not for Team Whitney, but for Team in Training. Go Team!

I'm changing teams.

I've been running for myself for about 3 years now. But it's just not enough to justify the long runs any more. Just in the nick of time, I have a new reason to run.

I am training to participate in the Salt Lake City Marathon, which will be run on April 19, 2008. I’m running as a member of the Desert Mountain States Team in Training – a group devoted to raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is making great progress in supporting people with blood cancers and advancing research to find a cure. I’m committed to raising $1700 before April. It may seem small compared to the $64.7 million that the Society devoted to patient services and research this year. But Team in Training is their largest source of revenue, so I know that our team and primarily the people that will support us (That’s You!) are playing and important role.

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission. This is the first time that Team in Training will have a group in Logan, Utah. I’m hoping that our team here will have a strong showing and we can make the Logan Team bigger and better for future races.

Thanks for visiting my webpage. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!

February 23, 2008. Our long run was 15 miles today. My legs were so sore at the end, I limped for a couple hours afterward. It also gave be two and half hours to think.
There's less than 2 months to the marathon. 2 months to train. 2 months to focus on raising money to find a cure. I've been thinking about doing a bake sale for a while. Today I finally started by creating flyers and order forms to distribute in my apartment complex. The idea is that rather than buying one brownie on the spot, people will order in advance and buy a whole pan. If it works out, I'll try it out at work and maybe with Logan Newcomers.

February 2, 2008. We had a very successful fundraiser in January at the Firehouse Grill. The team raised almost $2500 in one night.
Thanks to the Firehouse Grill. The owner opened the restaurant just for us and then the staff volunteered their time. The bands were amazing. Over a hundred people came out to enjoy the night and support the cause.
Other sponsors included: •Beaver Mountain •Le Nonne •Sportsman •Crumb Brothers •Kakoi Day Spa •Old Grist Mill •Juniper Take Out •Costa Vida •Kitchen Kneads •The Fun Park •Jamba Juice •Center Street Grill •Global Village •Rock Haus •Einstein Bagels •The USU Equestrian Program •Stamp it Up •Logan Newcomers

December 1, 2007. We're finally getting snow in Cache Valley. It's great to be looking forward to the ski season. It did make for an interesting run today. We ran through the snow on the River Trail. It was quite a work out. I've got $5 thus far toward my fundraising. I'm going to be sending out emails to friends and family to try to get more donations. We're also planning a fundraising event at the Firehouse Pizzeria in February.

November 17, 2007 – Today was the team’s first day of training. I had a hard week at work and hadn’t really gotten a chance to focus on fundraising yet. It can seem so daunting when you’re first starting, but some advice from our team mentor got me motivated. I’m really excited about our team. The hamstring injury that’s been bothering me the past couple of weeks wasn’t much of a factor today, though I was a little tired. I’m off to a strong start.
