Tahoe or Bust!
My Fundraising Webpage
Welcome to my Team In Training (TNT) home page!
What is TNT? TNT is a fundraising program of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society - a national voluntary health agency dedicated to curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. Each year, thousands of runners, walkers, cyclists and triathletes (like me!) participate in the world's major marathons, century bike rides and triathlons on behalf of the Society.
Why donate? Over 75% of the contributions raised by TNT fundraisers are used for things like Research, Patient & Community Services, Advocacy and Educational Outreach. In fact, the Society was rated by Money Magazine as one of the top 10 charities for having the highest percentage of donated funds directly benefit research and patient services. So feel good about where your money is going, if you choose to support my effort!
What exactly am I doing? In exchange for training and support to participate in America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride, I am raising funds in the fight against blood cancers. Every five minutes, someone in the United States learns that he or she has leukemia, Hodgkin or non-Hodgkin lymphoma or myeloma. And every nine minutes, someone dies of a blood cancer.
Compared to battling cancer, a 100 mile bike ride seems like very little effort.
My goal is to raise $5000. Please be as generous as you can -- every dollar counts!
Why am I doing it? I am training and racing in memory of my Grandfather, and in celebration of Eric -- a friend, Stage III cancer survivor, and fellow athlete. You can read Eric's profile on the Austin Distance Challenge website.
America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride The route goes around Lake Tahoe through both Nevada and California. It includes a challenging 800 foot climb to a rest stop overlooking Emerald Bay and a 1,000 foot climb to Spooner Junction. There are also many short rolling ascents and descents totaling over 2,600 vertical feet of elevation gain! The altitude ranges between 6,300 feet and 7,100 feet above sea level. If you prefer to mail a donation, please send cash or checks (made out to "LLS") to my home address.
