I am training to participate in an Olympic Distance triathlon in May of this year as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
I'm completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers but especially my husband Darrel's then 2 year old niece, Angela, who nine years ago was diagnosed with Leukemia just a few days before Christmas. Watching her go through all her treatments and seeing such a young beautiful girl have to go through everything she did just didn't seem fair. By the grace of God and with the advancements that have been made in medicine, she made it through and is now Cancer free and a wonderful young lady! It's with the funds raised by events such as these that make those advancements possible. Now that I am a mom it breaks my heart even more that one more person out there is facing the same things that Angie did. That is why I have decided to take on this challenge! These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
