Racing to Save Lives
This November, Ashley will celebrate her fourth year of remission.

On September 29, I will participate in The Nation’s Triathlon in Washington D.C. with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training ® program. The event will test my physical limits with a .9 mile swim, a 24.9 mile bike, and a 6.2 mile run. This might all sound very familiar because on September 24, 2006, I raced in the Walt Disney World Triathlon and raised over $2,700 for blood cancer research and patient aid. This year, my goal is to raise over $3,000 in honor of Ashley Otstott, a 10-year-old Harrisburg resident who was diagnosed on September 17, 2001, with acute lymphocytic leukemia, the most common of the childhood cancers. After over two years of treatment, Ashley was declared in remission on November 13, 2003, and has been cancer-free ever since. Her parents, Sharon and Bob, are strong supporters of the program because they know that the money raised through Team In Training was responsible for funding research that saved their daughter’s life. You can join our fight on September 29 by sponsoring a body part, and have your name, or the name of someone you'd like me to run in memory or honor of, written on it throughout the entire race in permanent marker. The sponsorship levels are as follows: Forehead/Face-$1,000 Neck-$500 Upper Arm-$250 Lower Arm-$100 Lower Leg-$75 Upper Leg-$50 Back-$32.00 ($1 for each mile) ...Or any other amount you'd like to give. Every little bit helps in the fight against cancer.
