Dear Family and Friends,
Many of you know that I have been a rather serious walker for many years. A year ago, as my 50th birthday was approaching, I set a personal goal to complete a walking marathon in my 50th year. After careful consideration, I decided that some good should come of my efforts other than my personal satisfaction.
My life, like many of yours has been touched by numerous people who have fought blood cancers. Some have battled and won, others were not so fortunate. Ironically, I was even diagnosed with leukemia as a five year old. Fortunately, after two weeks of hospitalization my diagnosis was changed to infectious mononucleosis. I was a lucky one. It seemed fitting that, in honor and memory of all those who have and continue to battle courageously, I participate with Team in Training of Central Pennsylvania and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I will be walking a marathon in Wilmington, DE on May 18th.
I have chosen to specifically honor the memory of a remarkable young soccer player, Andrew McDonough. Andrew was a talented, bright and brave young man who tragically lost his battle with leukemia in the summer of 2007. He and his family fought tirelessly for 167 days. I am asking you to join me in honoring Andrew, as well as the others we all know who have battled blood cancers. Most of you know, I am determined to train and finish to complete my goal.
