I Can do 26.2!!!

Hi! Welcome to my Team in Training home page!

I am raising money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as a participant in their Team In Training and I'm asking you to help by making a contribution. Each donation helps accelerate cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma and brings hope to the patients and families who are on the front lines of the battle against these diseases.

Leukemia is the general name for four different types of blood cancers. People can get leukemia at any age. In 2007, about and 40,440 adults and 3,800 children are expected to develop leukemia. It is most common in people over age 60. Cancer is something that has affected my family, and I’m sure many of yours. It's something that no matter how hard we try to prevent, somehow finds a way into our lives. I’m running this race to raise awareness for blood cancer’s, and to do all that I can to make sure that people stricken with this disease have a fighting chance for survival.

How am I going to do this you ask…by training to run in the San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon on June 1, 2008, my very first full marathon! Some of you may think I’m crazy, 26.2 miles is a long distance, but I’m not as crazy as you may think. I have 2 reasons for taking on this challenge:

1) I've developed a passion for distance running. After completing my first half marathon, I knew that I wouldn't be satisfied until I conquered the big show.

2): I knew that if I was going to commit to 4 months of strenuous training, it had to be for something more than personal satisfaction. I'm running to raise money to help find a cure for diseases that take the lives of too many wonderful, and often young people, who never get the chance to fully live life, or do something crazy like run a marathon. If these courageous and strong people can battle cancer, I can certainly run 26.2 miles.

I need your help to reach my goal of $4,000 to help support the Leukemia and Lymphoma society! I am committed to running 26.2, but I need help crossing the "financial" finish line! Please know that 75 cents of every dollar donated goes directly back to the Society, and 25 cents helps me get to the race. I would really appreciate any help that you can give, whether it's financially, through moral support, or helping me gain a sponsorship. Every donation counts! I always put myself in the shoes of someone less fortunate than me, and think about what a difference even $25 would feel like if I was in need of a cure.

I want you to know how committed I am to this race and this cause. I started a blog (http://tara26point2.blogspot.com) to share my training experience, and how fundraising is going.
