Mark & Jill's Team In Training Page
And we're off . . . AGAIN!
ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR OF TEAM IN TRAINING!
And there you were, with your generous support. Through Team in Training, we raised over $11,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society again this year. With your donation, you have continued help thousands who suffer from blood related cancers.
We want to take time out to thank you once again for all your support; we could not have experienced this without you.
What a rush! The hills of San Francisco were brutal during Jill’s run on October 22nd at the Nike Women’s ½ Marathon, but the views were spectacular! The morning began in Union Square with the sea of purple - all the other Team in Training people, ready to go forward in an effort to find a cure. Mark and Michael (our friend from Team in Training) rode their bikes THE WHOLE 13.1 MILE ROUTE as Jill’s mobile aid station, with Gatorade and Power-gels, and massages (yes she was the envy of many women runners!) The ending was again triumphant as we passed hundreds of people, cheering us on, on the ocean shore of The Great Highway.
And then the California International Marathon came on December 3rd. Mark ran another personal record of 3 hours and 30 minutes; darn good for his fourth marathon of the year! That December morning in Sacramento was quite chilly, but Mark came out of the gates strong and ready to tackle whatever came his way; Jill cheered from the sidelines (bundled in a coat and scarf!); he was hard to keep up with at his pace, even in a car! It all finished with cheers and clapping on the front steps of the state capital building; another breath-taking, photo worthy moment!
Thanks again to all of you who helped give us that extra push, with not only your donations, but so many words of encouragement. Team in Training is truly one of the most motivating and encouraging ways to volunteer. Training for a marathon is tough work, but the support you receive from them gets you to the finish line!
Our honoree, Jaymun Kaat, now just months old, continues his battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Please take time to visit his website – www.jaymun.com – it is an up close and personal way to understand the importance of your continued support. Throughout the season, we have followed Jaymun’s journey; sometimes its tough to read – the experience pours out of his family, and we are lucky to be a part of it. Some of you may have received the thank you card from Jaymun – it’s amazing to us that through all of their struggles, his family still has the energy to send a thank you. Jaymun continues his struggle even though our events for the season have ended. There is so much more to the story of these diseases that we rarely see, the families and friends that struggle daily.
That’s why we are planning on continuing our journey with Team in Training; Jill will be joining to run the San Diego “Rock & Roll” marathon in June 2007. We encourage anyone who has the ability and the time to join their local chapter of Team in Training; if running isn’t for you, they have walk, bicycle and tri-athalon teams, too! Go to www.teamintraining.org to find out about your local area’s team. The people you meet will forever be an important part of your life; and the experience is unforgettable! Be sure to tell them we sent you!
Thanks again to all of you!
