Larissa's Run for the Cure
Running to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
I am training to participate in the Nike Women's Half Marathon: A Race to Benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, in San Francisco, CA on October 21st, 2007 as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. Cures require research, and research takes money…
This event will be a huge challenge for me as I'm clearly not a runner...I can barely run down the block without losing my breath! I have several reasons for wanting to do this, one being to kick my butt into shape for the upcoming wedding. Two other great reasons and inspirations for my challenge are my brother Andrei and my dad Marko. Andrei was diagnosed 8 years ago with Lymphoma, and I'm happy to say that he's battled and recovered from the disease. My father on the other hand was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer in February 2007. On July 20, 2007 my father passed away after quite the struggle with this disease. It's been really tough on all of us to accept what has happened but I'm sure we'll make it through with a few smiles here and there. We ask our family and friends to pray for him.
I'm dedicating this challenge to my brother and my father - two great inspirations in my life. I love you both and will do everything I can to help others from experiencing what our family has.
Please help me and all those battling a blood cancer by visiting my personal donation web site at http://www.active.com/donate/tntcal/LarissaS and make a generous contribution... or if you do not want to donate online but would still like to donate, please contact me by email so I can send you more information. Thanks to all who have already donated! Any donations over $10 will be tax-deductible. As an added incentive, for all donations over $50 I will honour your contribution by wearing your name on my marathon jersey, along side my brother's and father's name.
Thank you all!
