Anne's Team In Training Page
Racing to Save Lives
Must run, must run, must run, must run!
Welcome to my Team In Training website!
I am training to participate in a marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this marathon in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers, especially people I have met in my line of work. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. Donating online is simple (and fun!) and you can know that you are taking an active role in fighting cancer.
I'm a little nervous as I have never run more than 4 or 5 miles in my whole life! I've talked to several people who have completed a marathon or half-marathon (or triathlon even!) with TNT and they all have had wonderful things to say about it! Also, by training for and participating in this marathon, I feel like I can contribute even more to my patients that I saw both in Philadelphia and now here in Alabama. Cancer is a terrible, terrible thing and I know almost everyone has had it affect their life or the life of a loved one in one way or another. I'm really hoping by fundraising and completing the marathon that I can contribute and make a difference in fighting cancer.
I hope you'll visit my web site often! Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. I plan on updating this page frequently and sharing with everyone how my training is going. Thank you so much for your support!
Consider these amounts:
$20 – Because leukemia is the leading cause of cancer
related death among children under the age of 20.
$52 – Or $1 per week for one year
$88 – Because there is now an 88% chance of survival
for children under five years old who are diagnosed
with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia.
$100 – Because with your help, we have a 100% chance
of a cure in the future.
$288 – Equivalent to $1 for each person who will be
diagnosed with a blood cancer in the next 24 hours.
$365 – or $1.00 per day for one year
$500 – Enough to provide one patient/family with
financial assistance in a year.
$1,000 – Cost on average for a one night stay at the
hospital. Many patients visit the hospital numerous
times and for extended periods while undergoing
treatments.
Other – Every single dollar helps us move one step
closer to putting cancer out of business! No donation
is too small – it really does add up!!
*Every $150 funds one Leukemia & Lymphoma Society researcher for one day*
*Every $500 will test seven people as potential bone marrow donors*
*Every $1,000 provides ten children with one-month supply of medication*
Donations can easily be made by credit card on this
site or you can contact me at alb245@yahoo.com for
other ways to donate.
HONOREES
The patient honoree for my team is Lauren Toth of Birmingham, AL. To learn more about Lauren and her
fight against cancer, click here.
Lauren found out that she had Large B-cell Lymphoma after a routine check-up at her OB/GYN. She is now in remission but needs to go back for check-ups every couple of months. Her story hit home with me. I sometimes think of cancer as a childhood disease because all of the people with cancer I work with are kids. Lauren's only a couple of years younger than me, and the fact that her cancer was found at a regular check up and she had no signs or symptoms....it just makes me think about how easily that could have been me and helps me to remember how thankful I am for my health.

20 miles! I did it! That was a tough one...physically and mentally! I've also reached my fundraising goal! Thanks so much to EVERYONE who has contributed, both financially and emotionally. Three weeks left until the big day! Please continue to keep me in your thoughts and prayers!

I ran 17 miles today! That is CRAZY! I am so sore too! I can't imagine after 26 miles....but I'm excited! After 26 I'll have a big ol' Mickey Mouse Medal to wear around my neck. :) I wasn't too nervous about running 17 because I did okay after 15 and 17 was only 2 miles more. But as an afterthought it really is pretty far. It's kind of fitting because one of my team honorees, who is now paralized from the neck down from cancer/chemo, will be starting rehab at a hospital specifically for spinal cord injuries this week. I know he is very nervous about it, but I know in my heart he will do great, just like I knew in my heart I would be able to run 17 miles.
I've almost reached my fundraising goal as well! I only need $110 more to meet my TNT goal, but I would like to meet my personal goal of $3000. If you haven't yet donated, please consider doing so as the deadline is quickly approaching.

I've successfully run my second half-marathon! We did 13 miles again today. Actually, from here on out every long run we do will be at least 13 miles so essentially I'll be running 7 half-marathons (at least!) from now until January 7th!
I'm getting close to my goal with my fundraising! It will be very exciting to reach (and hopefully pass!) my goal. If you have not yet donated, please consider doing so!

I ran a half-marathon today! We did 13 miles for our long run. I guess that means I'm definitely going to be running the full since I've already run a half and still have 10 weeks to go!
I haven't been keeping up with writing my goals on here, but lately it seems just finding time to run during the week is accomplishing a huge goal! From here on out my goals are
1) Raise at least $3000
2) Keep up with the training schedule
3) Finish the marathon on 2 feet!

Sorry for not updating in so long! We have been so busy the past 2 weeks! My running has been going okay. I got a little off track (haha, no pun intended) because I was sick and then we traveled 2 weekends in a row. But I did 10 miles on Friday and feel a lot better so this week should put me right back on schedule.
I'm definitely going to do the Disney Marathon instead of Phoenix. A number of factors went into this decision but I think I made the right one. I'm starting to get really excited! Next Sunday we do 13 miles for our long run. Wish me luck!
Monday, October 9, 2006
I ran 9 miles yesterday! Longest I've ever run in my life! Also, I added up all of my mileage since I started training on August 14th.......150.5 miles!!! That's CRAZY!
These next two weeks are going to be challenging to get all of my mileage in because we're going to be out of town the next two weekends. I've been running between 22-25 miles per week but this week I need to step it up to 29-35 miles per week!
The Jim 'N Nick's fundraiser went pretty well I think. I still don't know how much it made...I'm waiting patiently on the manager to look at the profit from Friday night and make his decision. The raffle alone raised $120!! Which is awesome...I was pretty excited about that!
So I've been doing some thinking in regards to my fundraising and our travel planning....I may end up doing the Disney Marathon instead of P.F. Chang's Rock 'N Roll Marathon in Phoenix. We'll see. There are a number of things going into this decision and right now I seem to be leaning more toward Disney. I have to decide for sure by October 23 (also when 60% of my fundraising is due!) so I'll keep you posted!
Goals for this week:
1) Run 29 miles this week
2) Send out reminder letters to everyone who has not donated.

Wow, first off, THANKS to everyone who donated this week! It's so wonderful to see that fundraising percentage keep getting higher!
My running has been going well this past week. I did 24 miles total. We did another 7 miler today for our long team run. I was surprised at how tired I was at the end, but then I found out we were running a 9:10 mile for 7 miles when I'm used to running almost a 10 minute mile! So that was a little bit of a relief! Let's see.....goals for this week:
Goals for this week:
1) Run 25 miles this week(Met)
2) Raise at least $500 between Jim 'N Nick's Happy Hour & Raffle(I don't know yet! Ahhhhh!!)
Sunday, September 24, 2006
Today was our second "team" run, except when I woke up at 5:40 it was pouring rain and there was thunder and lightning. We run in the rain, for sure, but not in thunder/lightning. I even stayed awake until 6:00 but there was still some lightning. So I went back to sleep and woke up at 9, no thunder, no lightning, no rain! Just LOTS of humidity! So I went for my run then, by myself which wasn't as fun, but it still felt good when I was finished.
I also met both of my goals last week (yay!). I ran 21 miles for the week and thanks to some generous people raised $200. Fundraising is a lot harder than I thought it would be! That being said, here are my goals for this week:
1. Run 22 miles total this week(Met)
2. Raise $150(Met)

I just returned from our "official" long run, which started today. It was relatively easy and I felt great when I finished. Although I do have to admit that when I woke up at 5:40 this morning I was thinking to myself "WHAT did I get myself into?!" It is so much easier to run with a group, but I am very glad I trained to prepare for our long runs so I wasn't huffing and puffing today.
My fundraising is going okay. Thanks SO MUCH to everyone that has donated so far. It is so encouraging and such a motivator every time I get a donation in the mail or see someone has donated on the website. I really need to start cracking down on raising more money.
Ugh, unfortunately (again) I did not meet my second goal from last week. My weekly mileage was 17.5 miles.....so close. That being said, here are my goals for this week:
Goals for this week:
1) Run 20 miles this week (Met)
2) Raise $100 this week(Met)

Unfortunately, I did not meet one of my goals from last week, which was to run 6 days out of 7. I knew I was aiming a little high when I wrote it, and then I was feeling pretty sick last week and I was worried about overdoing it. Luckily, I feel a lot better, so even though I ran 4 days instead of 6, I think it was better for me in the long run (hehe, long run....no pun intended ;).
Speaking of long runs, I ran 7 miles yesterday! That's the longest I've ever run at one time! (And yes, I'm going to keep saying the previous sentence after every future run longer than 7 miles). :) I'm going to try to step up my distance on other days during the week as well to increase my weekly mileage. So here are my goals for this week:
Goals for this week:
1) Run 7 miles (Met)
2) Run 20 miles this week(Not met. Weekly mileage=17.5)
Friday, September 1, 2006
This week has been pretty good. I ran 16 miles total this week including a 5 mile long run and a 4 mile long run. I also started taking a pilates class to work on core stability and endurance. I'm still working on trying to run in honor of the person I knew in Philadelphia. Hopefully I'll know by next week. Thanks for your comments, suggestions, donations, and support. It really means a lot to me!
Goals for next week:
1) Run 6 miles (Met)
2) Run 6 days/week(Not Met)
Monday, August 28, 2006
Goals for this week:
1) Run 5 miles (Met)
2) Run 5 days out of 7 (Met)
Friday, August 25, 2006
This week started out really well for me training wise....then kind of dwindled as the week went on. That's something I'm going to have to work on in the upcoming months. Monday I did 4 miles, which was my goal for this week. Tuesday I did 2 and Wednesday 3. Thursday evening was our Team in Training kickoff party and I couldn't get up early enough to run before work. Same goes for today. I'd like to run this afternoon if I get out of work early enough, we will see.
Running 6 days a week is going to be a real challenge. I really need to step it up in the next few weeks and try to run at least 5 days a week so my body can get used to it. So that is my goal for next week, to run 5 days out of 7.
I'm in the process of trying to run in honor of someone I knew in Philadelphia who has leukemia, but I need to get permission first. Until next week, happy running :)
Friday, August 18, 2006
So this week has been my first "unofficial" training week. Our first team run isn't until September 17th, but I want to have a good base by then. I've been running 2-3 miles/day this week (except Tuesday), which thus far in my life has been almost my max. I'm hoping next week to step it up to 4 miles one day, as that is the distance of our first team run. I plan on updating this progress section weekly, so check back to see how I am doing!
