| Injury is THE leading cause of death and disability among children and young adults. Not cancer. Not heart disease. Not AIDS. The #1 killer of young people is traumatic injury caused by vehicle crashes, violence, falls, sports and other causes. The most serious injuries are those to the brain and spinal cord which can lead to permanent paralysis and disabling brain injuries. The only "cure" is to prevent these injuries from happening in the first place.
The good news - most injuries can be prevented by learning to make safe choices. The mission of ThinkFirst is to reduce injuries through education, research and policy.
