| Our first annual distance race, The Wellness Cup, is being held on September 27th, at the Branford Yacht Club. It is a charitable, fund raising event with ALL proceeds to benefit The Wellness Community of Southern Connecticut (TWC-SCT). This TWC center will be located along the shoreline and will service all of Southern Connecticut. A minimum of $500,000 is needed to open the doors of the future center—to date, twenty percent of that amount has been raised. TWC programs are designed to help ALL cancer survivors AND their families in a homelike setting all FREE of charge. TWC provides professionally-led support groups, educational workshops, and stress reduction programs that include exercise and mind/body practices. TWC-SCT has already been involved locally with several programs through Yale, St. Raphael’s, and other hospitals. The first TWC opened its doors in 1982, in Southern California. There are now 24 communities worldwide, 78 satellites and online support. TWC-SCT was started in the summer of 2006.
The Wellness Cup is a 50nm race that will attract boats from New London, CT to Milford, CT and is an ESCA (dbl point) race. We are hoping to raise $50,000 in this event. Along with trophies for 1, 2 and 3 in each class, awards and prizes will be presented to the top three individual fund raisers as well as the top fund raising boat.
