Famous Potato Marathon: Team IRC Boise
Run or Walk to help a Refugee preserve a home
"Our hope is to stay sheltered from the biting cold – our bodies are not used to a cold climate " says Pradhan. For many refugees the concerns of becoming homeless due to the current economic challenges is their worst nightmare. Their arrival to the U.S in search of safety was all they dreamed of. No thought ever crossed their minds that America too could experience challenges, though of a different nature than what they had experienced before. Rising unemployment has affected the refugee community more severely. The obstacles they have to overcome to compete in a constrained job market -learning a new language, rules and regulations in the American job market, learning a new culture, a challenging transport system, having required job references, having a resume that meets a constrained job market, makes it particularly difficult. This year given the abovementioned challenges, IRC will be focusing our energy to support any refugee that may find themselves unable to meeting their housing needs. We would again like to form a run and walk team to participate in the Famous Potato Marathon being held on May 16th 2009. Funds raised through this event will be matched dollar for dollar by an anonymous donor. We invite you to donate to this worthy cause.
