She was diagnosed just 1.5 years earlier, and heard the bad news on the same day that the first trial of Naveed Haq, the guy who shot me and others at the Jewish Federation, was declared a mistrial due to a hung jury. She died less than a month after the second trial ended with a conviction, but before Haq was sentenced to life+80 years.
