United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Cleveland, the Official Charity of the Cleveland Triathlon

August 5, 2012 marks the 26th Cleveland Triathlon, and Team UCP will be part of the vivacious spirit that takes over downtown Cleveland as the Official Charity for the fifth year in a row!

In 2008, United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Cleveland and the Cleveland Triathlon race producer, Pacific Sports, began a collaboration. UCP became the Cleveland Triathlon’s Official Charity, and in doing so, found a new avenue to raise awareness and funds on behalf of the agency. In just five years, our participation in the Cleveland Triathlon has become our biggest fundraising event with nearly 400 participants, 200 volunteers as well as hundreds of spectators, all of whom raise funds and awareness on behalf of the agency.

Parents and friends of UCP race in the triathlon to show their children with disabilities that anything is possible with hard work and determination. Seventeen families participated in the race last year by pulling their children in bike trailers and pushing them in jogging strollers – a truly incredible feat. Combined with the community's efforts to raise funds, Team UCP raised over $220,000 last year, surpassing our goal of $215,000!

The children and adults who receive services from UCP work so hard every day to accomplish things we may take for granted: holding a cup, using a fork, keeping our heads up, walking, working, socializing, etc. This race has become a way for all of us – staff, friends, families and the community at large – to honor the accomplishments and goals they meet every day!

How can you help?

Raising funds on behalf of the triathlon is a way for us to show support to the therapists, and other direct-care staff who work so hard to help the clients live as independent a life as possible. It will allow for UCP to continue to provide quality programming to over 1,500 children and adults annually.
In-kind donations and media sponsorships are also welcome.
