| "Shake it for Tourette's" ZUMBATHON!! |
|
|
Almost all children encounter negative teasing at some point, but imagine how a child, who has a movement or speech disorder, feels when he or she is constantly misunderstood. Tourette Syndrome is an inherited neurobiological disorder. Symptoms can include uncontrollable physical body tics such as eye blinking, shoulder shrugging and head motions. It can also include vocal tics.
The Tourette Syndrome Association is striving to raise community awareness and bring understanding of this often misunderstood disorder, while pursuing its cause and cure.
Our son Trent was diagnosed with TS when he was six years old. Trent's progress has been amazing but there are so many other kids whose families do not have the resources to get the medical attention and schooling that has made such a difference in his life.
This year my friends and I are hosting a two hour "Zumbathon" to raise money in hopes of finding a cause and a cure for this frustrating disorder. If you have never done Zumba, it is an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness-party™ and features high-energy Latin and international music.
I have met some pretty amazing people during the 9 months I have been doing Zumba, and my experiences gave me the inspiration to put this event together. Susan, CJ and Jerry will be the instructors at the event and I will guarantee you will enjoy the party!
So yes, we are getting together to "move" education and a cure for TS forward and "shake up" the misconceptions about TS.
Please join us at the Ritz in Ybor city on March 12, 2011 from 10am to noon!
Your skill level really doesn't matter, just come out and have a great time for a great cause!
