Join TEAM NORMAL™ walkers and runners* at the August 31, 2008 Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in Virginia Beach
We are trying to raise over $17,500 to bring the award-winning NIS program and curriculum to schools in Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Virginia to help get people into treatment for eating disorders!

NORMAL In Schools™ is a national nonprofit arts-in-education organization to produce, develop and implement programs and curricula that teach students of all ages about the devastating impact of eating disorders. By bringing a curriculum centered around the musical NOR•MAL into schools everywhere, NORMAL In Schools seeks to advance understanding and promote healing. TEAM NORMAL™ funds will go directly toward bringing the award-winning NIS program and curriculum to high schools, junior high schools and colleges around the country in 2008. People have received treatment as a direct result of this program -- the more people experience the program, the more they will get the help they need to recover!
“NOR•MAL went so much further than the typical production. It truly transformed a majority of the school for a period of time. Classroom teachers, student support personnel, administrators, health professionals, theater professionals, parents, and a large number of our students came together not only around a top-notch production and show, but also to support each other while learning more about ourselves through the very real issues of eating disorders and family dysfunction that many of our youth face.
From a building administrator's point of view, this is what educational theater should be all about: great performances and music and a chance for more of the school to become involved in the production -- all through real-life content that challenges and educates both the actors and the audience.”

*NORMAL In Schools™ and TEAM NORMAL™ does not promote long distance running or walking for individuals who are currently suffering from eating disorders. This activity is recommended for those who are at a healthy, normal weight, are not dieting, and who have appropriately trained for this event. NIS hopes to offer a RNR relay option in 2009 so that people in recovery can “Rock into Recovery” together. |
