My name is Nadene Tona Murphy. I live in Scotch Plains, New Jersey with my husband and 4 beautiful children. I was lucky enough to be able to run my first marathon last year as a member of Team McGraw. I knew right away that the experience would be special, but had no idea just how amazing it would be. I made friends and shared an experience that would be hard to duplicate. But I can’t wait to try! I am proud and honored to be a part of the team again this year and to raise funds for such an important cause. I can remember the moment in 2002 when I heard the words, “Mommy’s in the ER. They found something on her brain.” And then life as I knew it changed forever. My mother, Barbara Tona, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, a glioblastoma multiforme. For the next two years she received the best care and treatment we could find. She fought the best fight she could with courage, dignity and grace, but ultimately was no match for this tumor. My mother was 56 years old when she died. She was a sister, a wife, a mother and grandmother of 8. She was a beautiful woman whose smile could light up a room. I know she’ll be smiling when I cross the finish line in NYC! I will be running to honor her memory!
