I am a thirty-one year old mother of two daughters from Memphis, Tennessee. My husband, Ben, and I will be running in this year’s New York Marathon on November 2, 2008. In memory of my father and grandmother, I will be running as a member of Team McGraw in order to raise awareness and support for the Tug McGraw Foundation, which supports brain cancer research at Duke University Hospital.
Over a decade ago, my father – Virgil Vaughan – and my grandmother – Peggy Sternberger – died of brain tumors. My grandmother spent six weeks at Duke, and my family became very familiar and thankful for their Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center. The director of the Duke brain cancer center operated not only on Tug McGraw, and more recently Senator Ted Kennedy, but also on my grandmother.
I hope that you will partner with me and Team McGraw in this continuing fight against brain cancer.
Thanks so much!
