(Jeff McMahon and Allen Shellenberger thank all of you for making your donation to the Tug McGraw Foundation in support of quality of life brain tumor research and increased awareness of the fight to combat brain tumors.)
In truth, I only had a rough idea of what we were starting with last year’s launch of the Team McGraw marathon program.
I knew it would be a great opportunity to gain visibility for the Tug McGraw Foundation and our mission to fight brain tumors. I knew it would provide an avenue to raise much-needed funds for quality of life brain tumor research. And I knew that the New York City Marathon was the biggest marathon in the world.
What I didn’t realize…not fully…was that it would also allow me to be inspired by some wonderfully spirited individuals, both runners and survivors, that embody the very message we celebrate: “Ya Gotta Believe.”
As I slap on the shoes for the ING New York City Marathon 2008, I am honored to represent one of these folks: Allen Shellenberger, drummer for the rock band, Lit. Consistently upbeat – (great word for a drummer) – he continues to fight his fight with the support of his fans, his family, and his musical brothers and band mates…and I thank him for the privilege of having him join me in this endeavor.

As I run this race, I can know that Allen is there to keep me in rhythm, drive me through the rough spots, and share the ovation as we cross the finish line together.
We’ve got some miles to cover, Al; count me in…
