The length of a marathon is 26.2 miles or 42.1 kilometers. That’s a long way to go! I know because I have done this a few times before.

Running the ING New York City marathon is one of my aspirations, especially because I have the opportunity to run it for an elite charity –The Tug McGraw Foundation. 1970 was the first year the New York Marathon was run, which was one year before my high school graduation in Fairfield, Connecticut. Growing up, I was not the athletic type; in fact, I was more of a shy “bookworm.” But over the years, and after a move to New Hampshire, I learned to like sports and started to lead a more fit life.

I was brought up to appreciate what I was given and to give back to those less fortunate than I. Running the ING NYC Marathon with Team McGraw will enable me to do this.

I am willing to run the distance to show 30,000 runners and two million spectators that the Tug McGraw Foundation is a charity I believe in.

I am running in memory of my cousin’s friend, Dr. Bruce Metzger – husband, father, and grandfather, and a New Jersey dentist – who recently passed away after a courageous battle against the devastation caused by a brain tumor.
