I grew up in a small town where I was the only one with a bleeding disorder. By joining NYLI, I felt like I could be among a dynamic group of people who could understand some of the challenges I faced growing up and could teach me new ways of living day to day with this disorder.
Having a bleeding disorder has taught me how much I enjoy working with children. I have been a counselor at camps for the past five years, where I have created several program activities as well as taught a workshop at NACCHO (National American Campers Conference of Hemophilia Organizations) for children who have fears and anxiety about leaving home and going to camp. Since I was nine, I have given talks about my life and what it has been like living with hemophilia and HIV. |
