Racing for a Cure

Team FRAXA is making its debut in the 2008 Marine Corps Marathon! This team is working to raise awareness and research money for Fragile X, the most common inherited cause of mental impairment and the most common known cause of autism. My sister Deborah has five beautiful children, Jacob, Sophia, Mary, Thomas and Liam Parker. Jacob, Sophia, and Liam all have Fragile X. Jacob is a sweet, sweet 11-year old. Jacob loves Michael Jackson and singing along with opera videos. He is the first one to start the conga line at parties. He is always laughing and LOVES it when his Grandma acts like the Wicked Witch of the West. Sophia, nine years old, is a spunky comedian. She is a great cheerleader. Sophia also has a great memory! She tells her mother how Aunt Sarah forgot to brush teeth, got lost on the way home, forgot to stop at McDonald’s… I love having pizza parties and sleepovers with Sophia. Liam is our resident computer genius. Laid-back Liam is known as Houdini, because he can escape from anywhere! Liam just started talking. He can name his friends, count, ask for apples, and repeat the "special" words his brothers and sisters teach him. Deborah has faced the hardest realities of Fragile X. She is a wonderful, strong mother and a perfect example of the phrase "God never gives us more than we can handle." This is a great opportunity to give something back to Deborah, Jacob, Liam, Sophia, and everyone affected by Fragile X. Our goal is to raise money and awareness for the Fragile X Research foundation. My personal goal is not to cry until mile 3. I appreciate any support, whether in the form of five dollars, verbal support, or a partner on a training run!
