| Iron Panda: Kung fu cancer ninja |
|
| So I didn't die trying to complete IronGirl, I actually finished. Then, in a lapse of judgment fueled by dangerous optimism, I signed up for an Ironman.
How can you make the pain of training more bearable? By doing it as a fundraiser!
Why Team Fight?
Well, because I'm not that old and I know too many people my age who have cancer. And most cancer organizations skip over my generation, and we have our own concerns relating to cancer. And Team Fight has proven to be a great organization so I'm fundraising for them again.
Approximately 65,000 young adults in their 20’s and 30’s are diagnosed with cancer every year. Cancer remains the leading disease killer among 20-39 year olds. Young adults going through cancer treatment still have an inadequate amount of support on every front: medical, psychological, and financial.
Would your job really understand if you needed to miss months of work when you've only been working a few short years post college?
Would your doctor be prepared to discuss infertility as a result of chemo?
These aren't quite the same issues that children with cancer or more mature populations have. And for some strange reason, no one is addressing them.
So while I'm punishing myself trying to get to the finish line, you can read my blog and point and laugh. Or you can point and laugh and donate so in years to come I will only be training for your amusement.
