Every year, the New York Road Runners has a limited number of entries for the ING New York City Marathon. In 2006, The Special Charity Initiative was created offering a select number of people who apply and pledge to raise at least $2,500 for one of the chosen charities guaranteed entry into the NYC Marathon!
Education Through Music (ETM) is proud to be have been chosen as one of the 2010 charities! At ETM, we believe every child deserves a well-rounded education: one that includes music both as a subject in its own right and as a means of supporting learning in other areas. Unfortunately, many schools, especially those serving children in low-income communities, provide no music instruction or rely solely on short-term programs that do not serve every student.
This is where ETM comes in…we form long-term partnerships with inner-city elementary and middle schools that lack the resources to develop school-wide music programs. Funds raised help us ensure high-quality instruction by hiring qualified teaching artists, providing ongoing training, and performing regular program assessments. The support we receive helps us achieve our goal of improving education for thousands of New York City children. |
