| We first met at First Descents, a kayak camp for young adults with cancer. First Descents is a unique program due to its focus on young adults, an often overlooked demographic of cancer patients that grows by 70,000 new patients a year. This camp helps young adults beyond their physical needs, providing a sense of empowerment, community, and hope. We were deeply inspired and changed after attending First Descents. After camp, we chose to maintain active lifestyles, despite the physical hardships experienced during our cancer treatments. We formed Team Beyond Cancer, as competitive teammates, with the purpose of raising money for First Descents.
Our goal as Team Beyond Cancer is to raise $20,000, which will send 20 participants to First Descents in 2009. To achieve this goal we are requesting sponsorship and donations that will be used to change the lives of those battling a disease that has either directly or indirectly affected the lives of almost everyone in the United States. |
