I DID IT!! I finally finished my first triathlon!! On July 27th, 2008 I crossed the finish line with 80 of my colleagues at the Active Network in the XTerra Wetsuits Solana Beach Triathlon! The waves were big on Sunday, the swim was difficult, and on top of it I was sick, so it ended up being one of the toughest physical challenges of my life. But through prayer and determination I muscled through it; not stopping once to walk or catch my breath. It took every ounce of energy out of me, and I was happy when it was over. But through our fundraising, my team was able to raise $57,000 for the homeless youth at the Monarch School in downtown San Diego!
Homeless youth from all over San Diego County ride the trolley or the bus, sometimes 45 minutes each way, to get a good education at the Monarch School. This school provides them with an opportunitiy to graduate from high school with a diploma that can get them into college, get them a job in the future, and get them off the streets. I believe this school is helping to break the cycle of poverty through education, and is loving on kids who might not receive love elsewhere.

Thanks to your generous donations, I was the top fundraiser for my team! That felt even better than finishing the tri, I have to tell you. The good news is that we are continuing to accept donations for the Monarch School for the next few weeks! So if you have wanted to donate all along and haven't gotten the chance, there is still time to do it! If you want to reward my accomplishment, I would rather you donate to the school than pat me on the back. I already feel awesome. :) I would LOVE to reach my goal of $2,500. If you can support the Monarch School with a donation I would greatly appreciate it. The race was so incredibly exhausting and at times painful, but it pales in comparison to the lives these kids face every day. I would do this whole triathlon over again today, if it meant raising another $57,000 for these kids.

I have been completely overwhelmed with the generosity and kindness of my friends and family during the course of this event.
