| The second annual Walk To Beat The Clock! hosted by Tamika and Friends will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2008 in Washington DC from 8am-12pm.
The 4k walkathon is a four-hour outdoor event aimed at raising awareness about cervical cancer and how each of us can prevent it by educating ourselves and our friends. The walk starts in West Potomac Park, continues around the Tidal Basin, and then returns to West Potomac Park where walkers are encouraged to participate in the post-walk festivities. The day’s activities will begin with a ceremony saluting cervical cancer survivors and a moment of silence to remember those who have lost their lives to this disease. After the walk there will be a pep rally focused on the things that each person can do to make a difference and help eliminate cervical cancer. The rally will include music, entertainment, and motivational remarks from survivors and activists who have been touched by cancer.

About Tamika & Friends and Beat The Clock!
In 2005, cervical cancer survivor Tamika Felder created Tamika and Friends, Inc. and joined a movement to eradicate cervical cancer. Based in the Washington, D.C. metro area and serving women nationally, T&F is a leader in HPV/cervical cancer awareness and support. T&F is committed to educating all women about HPV and its link to cervical cancer. In addition, the organization supports women who have been diagnosed with the disease.
Cervical Cancer is almost ALWAYS preventable, and the first Beat the Clock! Walk, which was held on May 19 2007 in Washington, D.C., was another way to make women aware of this fact. The walk was a first for both Tamika & Friends and the cervical cancer community, and it helped raise awareness about cervical health and the screenings that can prevent this disease. The money raised was re-invested in the community T&F serves. |
