| Hi and welcome to our fundraising page. My daughter was diagnosed over a year ago with Crohn's disease. She had bowel problems ever since she was a baby though. I was told I had Munchausen Syndrome when the doctors couldn't find the reason for Marissa illness. Then as she got older I was told her problems were all caused by nerves. Then one night Marissa was in horrific pain and crying so we went to the emergency room. They ran several tests at that time and sent her home. Our family doctor then called us stating more testing needed to be done. So after tons of tests Marissa was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), is a condition in which the lining of your digestive tract becomes inflamed, causing severe diarrhea and abdominal pain. The inflammation often spreads deep into the layers of affected tissue. Like ulcerative colitis, another common IBD, Crohn's disease can be both painful and debilitating and sometimes may lead to life-threatening complication.
I honestly don't think it hit any of us that this disease is life threatening until Marissa qualified for the Make a Wish Foundation that grants wishes to children with life threatening diseases. |
