| Stephanie's "Got Guts?" Fundraiser Take Steps Walk Chicago June 7, 2008 |

| Hello everyone! I'm Stephanie. I'm 21 years old and I'd love nothing more than to tell you I'm a third year English major at Drake University pursuing a career as a professor specializing in Elizabethan Literature. Unfortunately, that aspiration has been on the back burner for nearly two years now. On my 18th birthday, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, a chronic auto-immune disease which infects the intestinal tract. I'll admit I'm rather embarrassed about it. I don't think it's the kind of disease people are willing to discuss openly. Maybe this will help me overcome that fear. My trips to the hospital have long since surpassed counting on my fingers and toes. My social, academic, and work life can be at a stand still at the drop of a hat. I live every day not knowing when the disease will rear its ugly head. At the end of March, after only a week in a new, great job, I suffered another relapse which put me out of work and back at the doctor for more poking, prodding, and testing. Now I'm back on meds and I've had enough.
I'm turning my pain into positive action by joining the Take Steps Walk for Crohn's and Colitis. Spread the word about Crohn's and Colitis. Find a soft spot in your gut (and in your heart) to make a difference in the lives of millions of those who suffer. Any small contribution you provide will do wonders in raising awareness, finding new medications, and perhaps even a cure!
My deepest gratitude and affection,
Stephie

To donate please find the “Make a contribution” box on this page, if this box is not visible please select a fundraiser next to "View Team Fundraising Pages". Take Steps for Crohn’s & Colitis is the nation’s largest event dedicated to finding cures for digestive diseases. Not only am I participating in this event, but I am raising money for crucial research that wouldn’t even have been possible a few short years ago.
More than 1.4 million patients across the country suffer from these painful and unpredictable diseases. Beyond raising money for research, Take Steps brings together the community in a fun and energetic atmosphere. Participants are encouraged to make noise and be heard -- raising awareness of these little-known diseases in their community and across the nation.
Please support my efforts by making a tax-deductible contribution to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. With your help, we will fund important research and raise awareness of diseases that afflict millions of people. |
