The Sustain Foundation and Fleet Feet Sports are working with the fall 2008 Team Sakina to raise sufficient funds to send at least twenty students in Sakina, Tanzania to secondary school for one year. These students have completed primary school (Grades 1-6), which is free in Tanzania, but will not be able to continue their education without financial assistance. The cost per student for one year of secondary school is $70 for tuition and $100 for living expenses (uniforms, books, lunch, and transportation). By participating in a variety of team activities and by raising awareness in our community of the extreme needs of the Sakina youth, we hope to meet our goal of helping these youngsters get an education, so that ultimately they can help improve and sustain their own community. Our total fundraising goal for the fall is $3400, the cost of sending 20 children to school for 1 year.
Team Sakina, a women's running group affiliated with Fleet Feet Carrboro and Sustain Foundaiton, was organized to promote to improve the physical and mental strength of the participants, while supporting a less fortunate community in Sakina, Tanzania through our efforts and donations
