Support the kids of Oak Grove Center --the work we do today builds a better tomorrow! Build a better tomorrow today for Oak Grove.
Oak Grove Center is a nonprofit educational and residential center serving 200 at-risk and special needs children. Many of these kids suffer from physical and/or sexual abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, or other traumas. Children and youth are admitted with a variety of social, emotional, behavioral and medical problems. Many of the youth have school problems, family dysfunction and alcohol or substance abuse. We are fundraising to combine our love for running/walking with our desire to see the physical and social-emotional needs of Oak Grove students fulfilled. Oak Grove currently has over 160 students on campus with no indoor recreation space. Many of the kids are on medication and cannot be outside in temperatures over 88 degrees (not hard to do in the hot summer months). The gym-multipurpose room would also have additional space for a Performing Arts room and Occupational-Play therapy room, which is especially needed for children with autism. Arts and Sports help provide many needed opportunities for the kids to heal, grow and positively connect with others. Our fundraising efforts will go toward the goal of providing a state of the art gym facility for these deserving kids. Additionally, we have added autism services and our kids with autism need help even when school is not in session. A portion of the funds raised will help support Autism Camp for the upcoming Spring Break. Autism Camp helps our kids keep the structure even when school is out of session in order to not regress and fall behind in their progress. The camp is rich with support from trained staff members, structure, fun and sensory based activities. Camp Staff are trained in PECS, DTT, TEACHH and Sensory techniques.
