| I completed the NYC Marathon in 06:02 hours, whooo hooo!!! Guess what, I went ahead and made application for the NYC Marathon to be held on November 7, 2010. I'm such a glutton for punishment! Therefore, keep on the lookout for more news from me in the near future. A big thank you to all those who have shown tremendous support with your donations and purchases of T-shirts! It has been a great experience, and a chance to achieve many milestones and many firsts.
Although the the Marathon is over - the children in Botswana continue to need our help. I’ve pledged to raise $3,500 on behalf of the Somarela Fund (www.somarela.com), which supports Riverdale’s community service programs in Botswana and the great humanitarian work of the Bana Ba Letsatsi (Sunshine Children) program. Based in Maun, Botswana, Bana Ba Letsatsi began in 2003 in response to the rapid spread of AIDS/HIV in the region and the problems resulting from the epidemic.
The mission of Bana Ba Letsatsi is to keep vulnerable and orphaned Batswana children away from drugs, begging, and petty crime, to encourage them to return to mainstream schools, and to support them in becoming productive members of society. Bana Ba Letsatsi offers non-formal schooling, counseling, two meals a day, sex education, job training, and financial assistance. Please visit www.banabaletsatsi.com for more information.
The $3,500 I have pledged to raise will help Bana Ba Letsatsi:
(1) Continue to staff their center with eight people for the next five years
(2)Provide placement to older children at a boarding school, thereby keeping them off the dangerous streets and providing them with a good education
(3)Send a five year old to school for 10 years, including: Clothing, Food, Medical supplies and more ….
