| The Gedeon and Walters families are honored to be participating in the Smiles For Sophie 2nd Annual Birthday Bash & Dash on July 4, 2009 in Avon Lake. This amazing race is to benefit a foundation very near and dear to our hearts - Smiles For Sophie Forever (SFSF).
This foundation was started by our mutual friends, Marc & Emily Quayle, after they lost their four-year-old daughter Sophie to a diffused intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG). DIPG is an inoperable, incurable cancerous brain tumor. Imagine being given this diagnosis of your young child: inoperable . . . incurable . . . no hope . . . The prognosis for DIPG is grim, survival beyond a year is extremely rare. Sophie was a bright, active 3-year-old friend to Grace and Emma. She lived just 7 1/2 months after she was diagnosed.
Families suffering with DIPG are left to find their own way. Their path may include traveling the country in search of specialists, straining to fund alternative treatments not covered by insurance and spending countless hours seeking answers that are not to be found. Research for DIPG is drastically under-funded. Treatment options today are essentially the same as they were 30 years ago.
By supporting SFSF you can help both fund DIPG research and send some financial relief to heartbroken families. To date SFSF has given $26,000 to families with a child suffering from brain cancer. Additionally, SFSF has given $15,000 to St. Jude - $10,000 of which directly researches the donated DIPG tumors.
Please help us in our mission to cure this awful cancer and help families who battle against it. Any contribution you are able to make will make a difference. Every dollar counts!
Thank you for your generous support,
Kim, Chris, Grace, Reagan and Kayla Walters Scott,Elizabeth, Emma, Wyatt and Tyler Gedeon |
