|Support the beneficiaries of the SLO GranFondo – ALPHA and the Hearst Cancer Resource Center – by participating in our Ride for a Cause fundraising program. Getting started is easy. Just set a personal or team fundraising goal and then ask your family, friends and co-workers to help you reach your goal. You don’t have to be a registered rider for SLO GranFondo to fundraise – become a “virtual rider” to show your support.|
How it works:
To get started, click the ”Become a Fundraiser” link at the top of this page. Follow the instructions to set your goal and customize your own fundraising page with a photo and why you are supporting Ride for a Cause. Then, share your page with your family and friends via email or Facebook and ask them to help you reach your fundraising goal.
Start Fundraising and Win Great Prizes!:
There are various incentives to enhance your fundraising experience:
• Raise a minimum of $250 and receive your jersey for free*
• Raise a minimum of $750 and receive your free jersey* and admission for one to the exclusive VIP dinner with the pro cyclists on Saturday, October 20, 2012
• Raise a minimum of $1,000 and receive your free jersey* and admission for two to the exclusive VIP dinner with the pro cyclists
• The two top individual fundraisers, with a minimum of $5,000 in donations, will each have the opportunity to an once-in-a-lifetime experience. On New Year’s Day 2013, you will participate in a private guided bike tour to the top of the historic Hearst Castle, where you'll enjoy some of the most the extraordinary views the Central Coast has to offer. Since the Castle is closed on New Year’s Day, the road will be vehicle free and guided by a representative of Hearst Ranch. In addition to your ride you will receive an official jersey*, wine, cycling accessories, apparel and admission for two to the exclusive VIP dinner with the pro cyclists.
The deadline for individual rider’s collected donations to count towards the above prizes is Friday, October 12, 2012.

*To receive your free jersey by ride day, deadline for donations meeting this minimum are due Monday, August 6, 2012. Individuals earning their jerseys after that date, will receive their jerseys 8 weeks following the event.
No Riding Required:
Become a virtual rider by making a donation on our Ride for a Cause page – you don’t have to ride or attend to support this event! You can also support the riders you know by making a donation to help them accomplish their own fundraising goals.
What Your Ride for a Cause Funds Will Do
All proceeds from the SLO GranFondo and our Ride for a Cause fundraising program will equally support ALPHA and the Hearst Cancer Resource Center at French Hospital Medical Center, two not-for-profit organizations.
All donations through Ride for a Cause will be tax deductible through our fiscal agent for the event – the French Hospital Medical Center Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, tax ID #20-3256125.

ALPHA Pregnancy & Parenting Support is a nonprofit organization providing support, practical assistance during pregnancy through a child’s first year, and education on pregnancy and early parenting throughout San Luis Obispo County. By supporting women, children and families during the delicate and critical period of pregnancy and early parenthood, we enhance the family’s capacity to thrive. ALPHA’s free services include comprehensive case management for low-income and at-risk families, support groups, classes, and necessary items for pregnancy and child care: maternity and infant clothing, diapers, equipment and more. ALPHA is actively involved in community public health initiatives supporting education on healthy pregnancies and early childhood development. Hearst Cancer Resource Center
The Hearst Cancer Resource Center (HCRC) is a one-of-a-kind resource on the Central Coast for those living with cancer and their families, where all services are provided at no charge. The HCRC provides the supportive and educational services necessary for cancer patients to understand their disease, tolerate treatment, and maintain dignity and quality of life throughout all aspects of their cancer experience. Located at the award winning, not-for-profit French Hospital Medical Center in San Luis Obispo, this unique resource aims to bring a sense of peace, calm, strength and positive energy to all who visit. The HCRC includes a special oncology nurse navigator and houses the latest information on cancer diagnosis and treatment options. The center hosts everything from laughing classes, to nutrition lectures, to yoga, and support groups. Since opening its doors in 2008, HCRC has experienced more than 25,700 visits and contacts from cancer patients and family members, as well as many community organizations.
