| Tori Barnes' Race For Scott Carter's Heroes |

|
| Hello Friends,
As you know, I am a long time runner and when taking on the bigger races, I have often helped to raise money to help organizations that primary fund research.
In January, I will be running the Disney Half Marathon (I know, usually I run the whole marathon !) to raise money to support the Scott Carter Foundation which funds research efforts to end childhood cancer.
Scott Carter was a 13-year old boy (and would-be brother in law of one of my best girlfriends) who died in December of 1993 after a courageous three-year battle with bone cancer.
During the duration of his illness, he put together a remarkable collection of sports and celebrity memorabilia which he called “Scott Carter’s Heroes”. His dream was to display the collection for the enjoyment of the public and to raise money for children’s cancer research. The HEROES collection contains over 300 items - A Large portion of the collection is currently on display at Walt Disney World’s Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, Fla.
Scott believed that if enough time, energy and money were devoted to children’s cancer research, a cure could be found for this dreaded disease, the number one disease killer of children today in the United States.
Over the last 15 years, the foundation has raised more than $1 million through donations and fund raising events. The foundation has funded more than nine two-year research fellowships at institutions including M.D. Anderson, Huntsman Cancer Institute, Texas Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Denver, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, Duke University Medical Center and Duke University Children’s Hospital.
Please help me in supporting this important cause! Every little bit helps - and in this case - it helps to save the lives of our young kids who should be focused on their childhoods and not on being sick and possibly dying.
Thank you so very much and I'll keep you posted along the way!
Happy running and all the best,
Tori |
