Mission
The Foodbank's mission is to end hunger and transform the health of Santa Barbara County through good nutrition.
Case for Support
For 30 years the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County has been the leading food distributor and hunger-relief organization in the region. They distribute 10 million pounds of food a year to 290 Santa Barbara County nonprofits and programs, of which half is fresh produce. Their distribution model emphasizes teaching people to look after their own nutritional health and community leadership. Recent economic conditions have resulted in a major increase in the number of households in need of food assistance. More than 102,000 unduplicated county residents sought food assistance in 2010. 44% of those we serve are children.
The Foodbank is not content with being a 'band aid' solution. Their goal is to end hunger and banish malnutrition. They have an innovative and national award-winning series of education and empowerment programs for children designed to build a healthier generation, able to budget, shop, grow more of their own food, cook and eat healthily in good economic times or bad. Physical activity is a key component of these programs, which are run by the community for the community.
Please join the Foodbank in this exciting and transformative work. |
