| This year has been exciting and sad. My open water training partner, Dave Parcells, suddenly passed away while racing down in Tampa Bay, Florida. We both had planned open water attempts overseas. Dave was planning an attempt for a double loop around the island Jersey, and I am attempting a triple crossing back in the English Channel. Dave was recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and he immediately arranged with the St. Vincent’s Medical Center Foundation to open a new branch account to help individuals battling this degenerating disease. Liz Fry, another CT channel swimmer who is attempting a double channel crossing, and I had agreed to join Dave, before his death, to raise funds for this account through our individual channel attempts.
Dave was so focused to push his body to the next comfort zone before his disease suddenly took its toll and took him away from us. He and I shared this philosophy and I look to my challenge and need YOUR help to carry on his mission. If you know anyone who may be interested in sponsoring me, please forward them this letter, we can make this happen.
On July 16th, my crew, of Janet Galya and Margaret Peterson and I will be traveling back to Dover, England. After a 3 year hiatus, I have prepared to the best of my ability and I am ready for my chance to make some history. My team is ready and we are all focused for the 30plus hour challenge.
St. Vincent’s sponsors the Swim Across the Sound and are excited to follow Liz and me on our adventures. Log into the website, www.swimacrossthesound.org , to follow our progress and learn more about this great organization. We have a Hartford Chapter now and we are always looking for volunteers and sponsors for events.
If you or a loved one needs support or guidance with the battle of Cancer or MS, check with your friends at the Foundation, they may be able to help.
