We are literally “Running For Our Lives” again this year! Sacramento has gutted the public school budgets across the state. It is the "Dark Ages" of California Public Education.
We are running 150 miles not only to raise money for our school in order to maintain our educational programs, but also we are running with invitations for each California Senator and Assemblyman. We are inviting each of them to "Spend 1 Day" in a public school in their home district so that they can witness first hand how their cuts have devastated California public education. We need them to reconsider the level of education funding because these cuts are not only hurting our kids now, but also these budget cuts are endangering the future of California.
San Carlos Charter Learning Center celebrates its sixteen-year anniversary this year. We are the oldest charter school in California. As a start up charter school in California, we receive $578 less per child compared to other public schools in the area. This $150,000 reduction in funding has a major impact on CLC’s finances. In addition, Sacramento’s continuing financial crisis has caused them to cut our funding again this year by an additional $200,000 compared to the 2008-09 fiscal year.
San Carlos Charter Learning Center has one of the most comprehensive and innovative educational programs in the country. We provide an experienced based, multi-age learning environment that allows us to better meet the needs of all our learners in grades K-8. In addition, our parent participation component along with our commitment to nurture each child’s social and emotional growth allows our students to graduate eighth grade with a comprehensive and well-rounded education. Over 90% of our students who begin school in kindergarten or first grade will stay through to graduation.
