| The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles ("LAFLA") is the oldest and largest provider of civil legal services to low-income people in Los Angeles County. Each day brings enormous demand from scores of people who come to one of our six regional offices, three domestic violence clinics, four Self-Help Legal Centers, and numerous after-hours community clinics seeking assistance with a wide range of problems either caused or made worse by their poverty. In 2007, more than 55,000 low-income men, women and children received legal assistance, free of charge, with critical legal needs affecting their homes, families and livelihoods. Proceeds from the Run for Domestic Violence Awareness & Preventionwill benefit LAFLA's Long Beach Domestic Violence Clinic, located at the Los Angeles Superior Court in downtown Long Beach. The DV Clinic provides free legal assistance to survivors of domestic violence and their children, helping them break the cycle of abuse and rebuild their lives with emergency temporary restraining orders, child custody and visitation orders, and referrals to helpful social service agencies for housing and other basic needs. |
