| Jason Mustonen's Ride for Semper Fi. |
|
| Last October, myself and 20 fellow bicyclists rode from Scottsdale, AZ to Marine Base Camp Pendleton in Ocean Side, CA in what is billed as "The Ride for Semper Fi". (www.therideforsemperfi.com/) The purpose of this journey was to raise money for the IMSFF (Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund . www.semperfifund.org) This non-profit organization financially assists Marines, sailors, and soldiers who have been injured in combat operations or during training and their families . There is a difficult gap between returning home from the hospital and reintegration into the community. The IMSFF provides aid to bridge that gap.
We successfully delivered over $70,000 dollars to the IMSFF last year but that is not all that is needed so we will go again October 2009. This year we ride to Balboa Navy Medical Center San Diego in honor of our heroes and the good that this organization delivers.
This is where YOU come in. We can pedal the bicycles and spread the word but it does little to assist these brave men and women if we don't raise the money that is needed. I am asking you to go here www.active.com/donate/rideforsemperfi/Mustonen and make your donation today as we kick off the first day of our efforts. Any amount is good and a monthly donation makes even more sense. Tell your friends, family and co-workers about the fund. Send them to the link and have them tell their friends, family and co-workers. Together we can make this year twice the success of last!
I understand that state of the economy seems uncertain right now so you can only assume that it is even more difficult for these families to scrape by with a newly injured loved one. While Wall St. was crumbling as we made our voyage last year many, many people gave whatever was in their pockets as they met us along the way.
Supporting the IMSFF and The Ride for Semper Fi does not necessarily equate to being in agreement with current, ongoing combat operations around the world. You are supporting the service people who went out to do what they were ordered and paid a heavy price for their loyalty. You don't even have to like riding a bicycle. We will do that part.
Thank you for your time and your support. |
