| Friends,
I feel so fortunate in my life with the ability to enjoy the freedom that the United States of America offers each of us everyday. I can walk out the door on any given day and ride my bike without worry, without concern. We have this privilege in our country due to the courage and strength of our military teams.
Through training, Marines learn the skills and techniques that will aid them in accomplishing their missions.
While deployed, Marines are given the weapons, armor and supplies they need. When Marines return home from deployment, it shouldn’t be any different. The Semper Fi fund has been in place for 5 years and is assisting in arming our soldiers and their families in many ways, helping them adapt back into civilian life or recover from injuries that they received while protecting us.
At 19 my older brother was on the front lines as an infantryman in the US Marine Corp in Vietnam, his platoon was demolished during an attack and he was airlifted to Japan with life threatening injuries. During this time there was less support of our troops, less appreciation when they came home and less help dealing with the trauma of war. 30 years later he was constantly fighting an internal battle with the demons
of war and realized it was okay to say he needed help. He went to the VA hospital in Tampa and this was the first time he was thanked for his service.
Having the privilege of joining this inspriational group and riding this ride is a simple way for me to say thank you.
Thank you to all that serve our country during war times and all other times and a way to say thank you to my brother Hugh. |
