Here's My Story My name is Eric Cook and you have an opportunity to join me in something very special. For the third year this June 14th, I'm racing Michigan's only 100-mile mountain bike race, called the Founder's Lumberjack 100, and need YOUR support. No, I'm not asking for you to help pedal, fill my water bottles or give me a push up the hills (although that would be nice). What I am asking for is your financial support to help fight a nasty form of childhood cancer.
To tie in with the distance of my event, I'm asking for "per-mile" sponsors... Interested? Since the race is 100 miles, that makes the math pretty easy, eh?!
Why am I asking for your hard-earned money? Well, I'm riding for the Children's Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation (CNCF for short) and raising money to help them find a cure. A very rare form of childhood cancer, Neuroblastoma affects roughly 600 children per year and there is no known cure for the disease.
Why Neuroblastoma?
A good friend of mine I met at the Graduate School of Banking (in Madison, WI) had a daughter who has passed away from this disease after a long, four-year battle. Diagnosed when she was only five, doctors told the family Christi would be lucky to see her 6th birthday but she lived for another four years, changing lives along the way (including mine).
As the webmaster for ChristiThomas.com, a site I created for the Thomas Team to help share with family and friends their story, I've decided to try and make a difference. The site is part therapy, part education, but mostly an inspiration to spend time reading the journal entries on how the family copes through all they have been through. With well over 1,000 photos online, links to other children's (and "Angels") sites, just one visit is all it takes to remind us that life is a precious we should never take for granted. Be sure to check out her Blog site, which Angela continues to post to on a regular basis.
By selecting CNCF it's my hope that funds raised through my efforts will somehow keep Christi's spirit alive and honor her and all of the other innocent children that have fallen victim to this deadly disease. So, won't you help me in my cause and make a donation? Every little bit helps, and together we all can make a difference.
Eric
P.S. I'll be posting periodic updates to my Blog, so be sure to stop on over and check it out. You can make comments and offer words of encouragement during my training process!
