| Watching Eco-Challenge videos inspired me to seek my own adventures. I started with rock climbing in Greece and climbed Mount Olympus. I trained for things an adventure race might include, such as kayaking, hiking, and swimming.
I had setbacks like pre-cancerous conditions which led to a few surgeries. Then, I had endometriosis. The therapy for it was worse than the illness. Nine months of injections were toxic to my body, causing long lasting symptoms like Lupus, chronic fatigue syndrome and Epstein-Barr. Other women experienced the same toxic reactions. The drug was soon removed by the FDA. After a complete hysterectomy and a year of recovery, I started training again. I came across the Project Athena Foundation through searching for local events in San Diego. When reading about the team and medical setbacks they and their recipients endured, something clicked. At the 15k Mission Trails Run I met the women of Project Athena and just had to find out what was next. Just when I thought the fun was over, I learned the fun has just begun. I am committed to September’s Grand Canyon R2R2R and am training by hiking and running. I want to show people how recipients of Project Athena directly benefit from their donations.
