The goal of the Pedal for Power Challenge is to keep the "beacon of warmth", a giant light bulb, shining brightly during the entire 31 hours of the Radiothon. Riders must continuously pedal the bikes to keep the light on!

Riders will also solicit funds from their family and friends to support them in this challenge. The funds raised during this event will provide emergency energy assistance (heat and lights) to families facing a temporary but serious financial crisis and consequently utility shut off.

Having heat....it's something most of us take for granted, but imagine how you would feel if you couldn't afford to heat your home? Cold showers, freezing pipes, no appliances or lights. Wearing layer upon layer of clothing and coats and still not being able to get warm. Time suddenly stands still and there's no escape from the relentless cold. Now just imagine if the heat and lights weren't coming back on....ever!

By keeping people safe and warm in their homes, THAW helps avoid the community problems that occur when a family loses their utilities..such as homelessness, theft, vandalism of vacant houses and the disruption of normal daily activities such as child's schooling because the family was forced to move to a temporary shelter.

Fires, illness and even death are prevented by avoiding the use of dangerous alternate sources of energy such as candles or space heaters.
