The Pedal for Power, a part of the WWJ Newsradio 950's Winter Survival Radiothon to benefit THAW, The Heat And Warmth Fund, challenges riders of all levels to pedal a special exercise bicycle that changes human energy into electricity to light a giant light bulb -- the “eternal flame” of the 2007 Radiothon! It's all happening Feb. 9th & 10th at the Boll Family YMCA in downtown Detroit.
Working together, if we can keep this light shining brightly during the entire 31 hours of the event, DTE Energy will double match ALL contributions made during the last hour of the Radiothon! This could be worth more than $50,000 in energy assistance to families facing a serious financial crisis and consequently the loss of their heat and lights.
By providing emergency energy assistance, THAW helps struggling families facing utility shutoff to stay safe and warm in their own homes, This helps avoid the serious community problems that occur when a family loses their utilities -- such as homelessness, theft, vandalism of vacant houses and the disruption of normal daily family activities such as school and work because the family had to move to a temporary shelter. Fires, illness and even death are prevented by avoiding the use of dangerous alternate sources of energy such as candles or space heaters.
Your support of a Pedal for Power rider, in any amount, will help THAW to warm a home and warm a heart in our community. Thank you! |
