Thank you for visiting my fundraising page and I hope you can help me out in my effort to bring more awareness to Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and to raise much needed funds that will benefit all who are touched by PD. On October 19, 2008 I will be walking a 5k with the PD Walkers Team at the IMT Des Moines Marathon. The PD Walkers Team is walking and fundraising to support the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA). APDA’s goal is to "Ease the Burden and Find a Cure" for Parkinson’s Disease. I hope my efforts will not only encourage and inspire others, but will also challenge other students to join in great causes.Being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease tends to increase with age, but an estimated 15% of people with PD are diagnosed before the age of 50. One of my classmates has a Mom who was diagnosed with an Essential Tremor at age 30. Two years later she was given the diagnosis of Young Onset Parkinson's Disease. I am walking to help find a cure so one day she and others who are diagnosed will benefit from the research and one day stop this progressive disease.”One of hardest challenges of PD is not always the PD symptoms, but the side effects from the PD medications. Since there is not one drug that treats all the symptoms effectively, PWP (people with Parkinsons) are constantly trying to treat the most debilitating symptom with the medicine that causes the least debilitating side effects.” Thanks to you and other supporters, APDA is able to help support research for new drugs and hopefully, one day, a Cure. They are also able to provide patient support, education and raise public awareness. Come and cheer for us on October 19th. Thank you so much for your support!!
