Welcome to PCRF’s “Miles for a Cure” Marathon Page
Since 1982 the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation’s dedicated volunteers have raised over $21 million for pediatric cancer research. The Foundation currently funds studies both locally here in Southern California at City of Hope National Medical Center, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, Children’s Hospital of Orange County and Mattel Children’s Hospital at UCLA, as well as at Children’s Hospital of New York and M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas.
CANCER FACTS
- Cancer is the #1 disease killer of children under the age of 20
- Currently 1 in every 330 children in the U.S. develops cancer before the age of 19
- Every school day, 46 young people, or two classrooms of students, are diagnosed with cancer
WINNING THE BATTLE
- The cancer death rate has dropped more dramatically for children than any other age group
- The survival rate in certain pediatric cancers has increased from 50% to greater than 80% since 1985
- This progress can be attributed solely to research
